FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Short answers about hardware, compatible inverters, wiring, data and licences.

Do I need internet for it to work?

Only to activate the licence and to reach your system from outside your home. Otherwise GridEon runs locally and you open it on your own network (LAN), no internet needed. The weather forecast updates whenever a connection is available.

What hardware do I need?

A Raspberry Pi 4 or an equivalent Orange Pi, a microSD card and a USB–RS485 adapter for the inverter and BMS. The full list is in the docs.

Can I check my system remotely?

On your home network, yes, from any browser. Secure access from anywhere, straight from your GridEon account, is in development.

Does it work with Home Assistant?

Yes, via MQTT. GridEon includes an MQTT broker and publishes data for Home Assistant and other apps.

Can I use one licence on several devices?

Each licence activates on one device. All your licences and sites show up in the same account.

Which inverters work with GridEon?

Deye, SunSynk and Sol-Ark (SG05LP1 single-phase hybrids), Voltronic, Axpert, MPP Solar, InfiniSolar and PowMr (PI30 protocol), Easun ISolar SMG II, Sumry and Anenji (Modbus), Solis hybrids (RHI, S5, S6), Growatt (SPF, SPH, MIN, MOD, MID), plus Lumentree. The list grows with every update; if you have another model, get in touch.

Which cable or adapter do I need for my inverter?

It depends on the inverter: a USB–RS485 adapter for Deye, Lumentree, Easun / Sumry / Anenji; the USB cable from the box for Voltronic / Axpert / MPP Solar; a USB–RS232 cable for RS232 ports; no cable for Deye / SunSynk / Sol-Ark with a Solarman dongle on your network. The details are in each inverter's guide.

Which BMS can it read directly?

JK (including the JK-PB inverter BMS) and Seplos, over RS485. The battery can also be read through the inverter, with no extra cable.

Can I change inverter settings from GridEon?

Yes. In Devices → Inverter, GridEon reads settings straight from the inverter (battery, priorities, grid charging, export, time of use) and writes them one at a time, with confirmation and a check after writing.

Does my data go to the cloud?

No. Measurements stay on the GridEon device in your home. The grideon.ro account only keeps your licences and the device's technical data.

Can I bring history from another monitoring tool?

Yes. Charts and reports can be imported from CSV files, including from other compatible monitoring software. GridEon never overwrites data it measured itself.

Does it work on a screen in the cabinet or on the wall?

Yes. On small 5–7″ DSI screens GridEon shows a simple kiosk view, and on HDMI monitors the full interface.

How do I get updates?

From the interface, in Settings → Updates. Updates are signed and, if a new version doesn't start, GridEon rolls back by itself. Updates are included with a purchased licence.

Can I try GridEon for free?

Yes. The device works for 48 hours right after its first start. If you create an account on grideon.ro, you also get a 15-day trial licence, which you activate in Settings → Licence.

What does the licence include?

Use of GridEon on one device, updates and new drivers, plus the online account with your licences and sites.

Can I move the licence to another device?

Yes. If you replace the board, you move it yourself from your GridEon account, once every 30 days. If you need it more often, contact us.

Do I get an invoice?

Yes, an invoice is issued electronically with every purchase.
