MQTT and Home Assistant

GridEon includes an MQTT broker. When you turn on publishing, every value it reads is sent over MQTT, so Home Assistant and other apps can use it.

Step 1 · Turn on MQTT publishing

Go to Settings → MQTT. The local broker uses port 1883. Choose a topic prefix (for example grideon) and turn on Publishing.

Step 2 · Add the MQTT integration in Home Assistant

In Home Assistant, go to Settings → Devices & services → Add integration → MQTT. For the broker, enter the GridEon device's IP address and port 1883.

Step 3 · Check the data

Values appear under the prefix you chose. You can watch them with any MQTT client (for example MQTT Explorer) to see the topic structure.

TipUse a fixed IP address for GridEon, otherwise Home Assistant loses the connection when the router changes the address.

Troubleshooting

  • Home Assistant doesn't connect: check that publishing is on and port 1883 isn't blocked on your network.
  • No values appear: check that the prefix in Home Assistant matches the one in GridEon.
